The eight-core processor is a new processor product introduced by Intel Corporation in 2010. Shannon Poulin, director of product marketing for Intel's server platform team, said the processor is aimed at four-socket servers. Each physical core can run two threads simultaneously, making 64 virtual processing cores available on the server.

Of the eight cores seen on the MCM, four are real Power5 chips and the other four are Level 3 caches.
