Why iPhone8 wireless charging can't charge iPhone12?

This could be due to magnets inside the new device, alignment issues, or other internal changes to the wireless charging protocol.

Apple's iPhone models have been using Qi wireless charging since the launch of the iPhone X and iPhone 8 in 2017, so many people have existing wireless chargers from previous generations of iphones on hand. Unfortunately, some of these wireless chargers don't seem to work properly on the iPhone 12 at the moment.

On both Reddit and MacRumors, several users of the new iPhone 12 have complained that the wireless charger is not working. The affected chargers can be used with older iphones, but will not charge iPhone 12 models.

The MacRumors forum has a list of chargers that don't seem to work with the iPhone 12, such as the Zens Liberty wireless charger, Mophie Charge Stream Pad, Nomad base station stand, and Mophie 3-in-1 wireless charging stand. In addition, there are some Anker wireless chargers.

Nomad's Base Station Pro, which uses Aira wireless charging technology, was previously on the list, but this week Nomad released a firmware update that should fix the issue. Unfortunately, most wireless chargers don't get firmware updates like the Base Station Pro.

Some users were lucky enough to get the wireless charger to work after restarting the device or trying to change the positioning of the phone on the charger, but in most cases, the affected wireless charger simply couldn't charge the iPhone 12 model. This is an issue that seems to be limited to a small number of chargers, most of which seem to work just fine.

IT Home understands that Apple has just released the official version of iOS 14.2, which mentions a fix for the \"device may not be able to charge wirelessly\" issue. Presumably, this should fix many of the previous issues, while other tweaks from the charger manufacturer, such as Nomad's Base Station Pro firmware update, may also help. However, not all chargers can update the firmware.
