Linear voltage regulation is not necessarily step-down rectification, it is a voltage regulation method, using a series voltage regulator circuit, by adjusting the transistor's on-degree or equivalent resistance to achieve voltage regulation.
In some specific circuits, linear voltage regulation can achieve the function of boost or buck, but this does not mean that all linear voltage regulation is buck rectification.
