In the edit | option, change the location of the disk to another logical disk with enough space so that it doesn't need to be started or used (Photoshop is expensive if you have enough space). As for erasers, if Photoshop is installed correctly and the eraser is in the correct state, this shouldn't happen (see if the layer is locked).
