Chipsets are the core components of the motherboard, and are usually divided into north bridge chips and South bridge chips according to their placement on the motherboard. Northbridge chip provides support for CPU type and frequency, memory type and maximum capacity, ISA\/PCI\/AGP slot, ECC error correction, and so on. The Southbridge chip provides support for KBC (Keyboard controller), RTC (Real-time Clock controller), USB (Universal Serial Bus), Ultra DMA\/33(66)EIDE data transfer mode and ACPI (Advanced Energy Management). Among them, the North Bridge chip plays a leading role, also known as the Host Bridge.
The identification of the chipset is also very easy, taking the Intel 440BX chipset as an example, its north bridge chip is the Intel 82443BX chip, which is usually located near the CPU slot on the motherboard, due to the high heat output of the chip, the heat sink is installed on this chip. The Southbridge chip is located near the ISA and PCI slots, and the chip name is Intel 82371EB. The placement of the other chipsets is basically the same. For different chipsets, there is also a gap in performance.
Chips, also known as semiconductors, are very large integrated circuits. There are a lot of triode diode resistor and other semiconductor composition. Nowadays, the production of chips mainly uses silicon wafers of elemental silicon, on which some metals are coated with a chemical reaction similar to laser printing technology to obtain different semiconductors. Finally, the package is sealed, the pin is welded, and it is ready to use.
