What are the functions of the voltage regulator in the circuit?

Pressure regulator applications

1, surge protection circuit: the voltage regulator breakdown at the exact voltage, which makes it can be used as a limiting or protective element, because a variety of voltage regulator diodes can be obtained, so it is particularly suitable for this application. Voltage regulator diode D is used as overvoltage protection device. As long as the supply voltage VS exceeds the diode voltage regulator D, it is switched on, so that the relay J draws the load RL and the power supply are separated.

2, the overvoltage protection circuit in the TV: EC is the main power supply voltage of the TV. When the EC voltage is too high, D is switched on, the transistor BG is switched on, and the collector potential will change from the original high level (5V) to low level, and the TV will enter the standby protection state through the control of the standby control line.

3, arc suppression circuit: in the inductor in parallel access to a suitable voltage regulator diode (can also access an ordinary diode principle), when the coil is cut off in the on-state, due to its electromagnetic energy release generated by the high voltage is absorbed by the diode, so when the switch is disconnected, the switch arc is eliminated. This application circuit is used more in industry, such as some high-power electromagnetic magnet control circuits use it.

Voltage regulator diode (also called Zener diode) is a silicon material made of surface contact type crystal diode, referred to as voltage regulator tube. This diode is a semiconductor device with high resistance up to the critical reverse breakdown voltage. In the reverse breakdown of the voltage regulator, in a certain current range (or in a certain power loss range), the end voltage is almost unchanged, showing the voltage regulator characteristics, so it is widely used in the voltage regulator power supply and limiting circuit. Voltage regulator diodes are graded according to breakdown voltage, and because of this characteristic, voltage regulator tubes are mainly used as voltage regulators or voltage reference components. Voltage regulator diodes can be connected in series to be used at higher voltages, and more stable voltage can be obtained through series, called bidirectional voltage regulator tubes.
