As we all know, the raw material of chips is silicon, and 90% of the current chips are silicon-based chips. Silicon to be made into chips, at the beginning, it is made into silicon wafers after purification, drawing, cutting, and polishing, and then officially enter the process of lithography and other processes.
Therefore, silicon wafers are the most critical and one of the most important raw materials in chip manufacturing, and each major chip production plant will have its own silicon fabs, and the number of silicon fabs determines the chip production capacity to a certain extent.
Recently, some institutions have counted the world's top 100 main fabs, that is, chip manufacturing plants, and found that the top 100 chip manufacturers have built about 320 silicon wafer production lines in the world, covering many sizes such as 4, 6, 8, 12, 18 inches.
After that, the United States built 35 production lines, Japan built 26 production lines, South Korea built 15 production lines, and other regions a total of 53.
Of course, the 155 production lines in China are built by many global enterprises together, not all of them are built by local Chinese enterprises, such as TSMC, Samsung, Texas Instruments, SK Hynix, Intel and other foreign brands have branches in China and have silicon production lines.
But it is undeniable that from this 60% ratio, it can be confirmed that China is becoming a global chip production base, and many of the world's chips are manufactured in China.
Of course, as mentioned earlier, many of these wafer production lines in China are built by foreign brands, not all of them are Chinese local brands, and the other side only uses China as a processing plant
But in any case, chip production in China will also drive the development of design, sealing and other industries, thus driving the development of the entire Chinese core. So our ambitious goal of achieving a chip self-sufficiency rate of 40% by 2020 and a self-sufficiency rate of 70% by 2025 seems not too difficult to achieve, don't you think?
When it comes to the source of the raw materials of the chip, it is stone, which is really everywhere! However, the difficulty of the chip is in the design and production process of the chip, not in raw materials, raw materials are everywhere. The stone is melted to extract high-purity silica, and then purified to 99.999999 or more, to make a wafer, which is the prototype of the chip, and then the designed circuit is printed on the wafer through the lithography process, cut into a wafer, and the package is the chip!
China, Japan, South Korea, the United States and other countries produce raw materials for chips
