Persons aged 18 and above who are permitted to stay in Hong Kong for more than 180 days should apply for and register for an identity card within 30 days of their arrival in Hong Kong. Subject to the availability of quota on that day, applicants may also collect a day slot number at the Registration of Persons Office to complete the application process.

After applying for the ID card according to the instructions of the staff, you will get a temporary ID card and change to the official ID card at the appointed time. Applicants should come in person to collect the ID card, if you want to authorize others to take the ID card, you can consult the staff during the registration process. Note: The Hong Kong police can spot check ID cards at any time, so the Hong Kong ID card needs to be carried at all times. Before obtaining a formal ID card, please carry a temporary ID card or Hong Kong and Macao Pass with you in case of emergency.
