Samsung announced today in South Korea that it has developed the world's first 64GbNAND flash memory chip, a \"leap forward in the history of flash memory.\" When a single chip reaches 64Gb, 16 of these chips can produce a 128Gb large-capacity memory card, which can store 80 DVD movies or 32,000 MP3s.
The chip is the first to use the more advanced 30-nanometer technology, which is currently used by most of Samsung's flash memory chips. \"This is the largest single memory chip in the world,\" said KwonHyosun, a senior manager in Samsung's investor relations department.
Samsung said the chip will be mass-produced in 2009 and is expected to create a $20 billion market by 2011, providing richer multimedia applications for mobile phones, digital cameras and MP3 players.
