The year 1947
A chip is actually an integrated circuit. The world's first chip was born in 1947 when WilliamShockley, John Barton and WalterBrattain successfully manufactured the first transistor, followed by the development of the bipolar transistor by WilliamShockley in 1950. In 1956, Shockley, Bardeen, and Bratton won the Nobel Prize in Physics for their invention of the transistor. Shockley was later credited as the father of the transistor.
