What does a 26c31 chip mean?

The 26C31 chip is a four-way differential line driver circuit chip designed for digital data transmission via balance. It is a four-way differential wire driver designed for digital data transmission via balance. The 26C31 meets all the requirements of the standard EIA-422-A while retaining the low power characteristics of CMOS. The
26C31 is capable of accepting TTL or CMOS input levels and converting them to EIA-422-A output levels. The chip uses a special output circuit that allows individual drivers to be disconnected without pulling down the bus voltage.

The 26C31 also includes special circuits that set the output to a high impedance mode during power-on or power-off to prevent false errors. The circuit has an on and off control circuit shared by four drivers.
All 26C31 pins have a protective circuit to prevent static damage.
