British chipmaker Newport Wafer Fab mainly produces silicon chips for power applications in the automotive industry, which has been particularly hard hit by this round of global chip shortages, and the entire automotive chip industry is now facing serious capacity issues.
Newport Wafer Fab is also developing more advanced \"compound semiconductors\" that are faster and more energy efficient.
According to the company's website, the 28-acre chip manufacturing facility in Newport, Wales, mainly produces 8-inch wafers with a capacity of 32,000 to 44,000 wafers per month, making it the largest wafer manufacturing facility in the UK.
