Opportunity's main purpose: to find evidence of water.
Opportunity was launched on July 7, 2003, and landed safely on the surface of Mars on January 25, 2004.
As of January 25, 2018, the Mars Rover Opportunity has roved on Mars for more than 14 years and has accomplished a lot: 90 Martian days, the discovery of the first meteorite on Mars, the Heat Shield Rock (in the Meridian Plateau), and more than two years studying the Victoria impact Crater. It's heading south along Endeavour Crater.
On March 11, 2015, the Mars rover Opportunity abandoned its final sprint in order to study a never-before-seen rock during the home stretch of the \"Mars Marathon.\"
In June 2018, NASA lost contact with Opportunity after a massive, sun-blocking dust storm blew up on Mars.
On September 3, 2018, the US Space agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory released a news that the \"Opportunity\" rover, which was \"lost\" with the Earth for many days, is expected to re-absorb sunlight and recharge, and start the repair process.
On February 13, 2019, due to the inability to contact the probe, NASA officially announced the end of the mission of the \"Opportunity\" Mars rover, which has been operating on Mars for 15 years.
